A Beautiful Face

Isn’t she lovely?  And what a head of hair!

This is Shevy – Amanda and Michael’s baby.  Welcome to this world!

A sneak preview of some recent projects

A nasty cold has kept me close to the couch this week but my recent embroidery project has kept me good company.  This is for a stocking I’m making.   The embroidery transfer is from my mom’s stash of my Grandma Alice’s embroidery transfers and I just love them!  I don’t have the complete set on this one but according to floresita, this is a Workbasket transfer pattern, and you can download your own copy here!

Needing crafty ideas?

If you are needing some inspiration for holiday gifts, be sure to check out Sew Mama Sew’s blog where she has posted several ideas every day this entire month for Christmas gifts.   They also do a weekly give-away if you leave a comment!

Brrr….

We took a chilly but refreshing hike today to see waterfalls, falling leaves, fresh green ferns and frozen grass…

Holidays are here!

Christmas is next month?  Who forgot to tell me?!  Actually, it is Thanksgiving this year that has taken me the most by surprise.  Lucky for us though, we’ll be eating turkey with these fun friends this week!

I’ve been busy these past two weeks making some handmade gifts, mostly fun kitchen stuff and some embroidered goods from my mom’s stash of vintage Vogart embroidery transfers.  The back cover tells me they will make washing dishes “almost fun”.  Oh the  life of a 1950’s house wife….

And, the very BEST news of all is that I’m happy to announce that Elisheva has arrived safely into this world – complete with loads of curly dark hair like her daddy (or so I’m told, no photos yet!).  Amanda and Michael are SO  happy she is here and so are we!

Rainy Friday News

-I have a new block to work on from my “Block of the Month Club” that met last night, this month is “Anvil”.  I’m not a big fan of the fabrics they gave us to work with this time, so I may dig into my stash to try something else.

-Mom is visiting from up north.  We’re going to hit Cool Cottons, Fabric Depot and hopefully get in a walk if the rain will hold off for a bit.

-I’m getting together some goodies for our friends in Israel

-Tonight I’m going to make a yummy pasta dish with fresh handmade pasta from here.

A few new buttons…

I’ve added a few new buttons on my blog – mainly ones that have to do with some great crafty ideas to inspire holiday gifts and just general creativity!

Projects…

This week’s projects:

-Making some fun napkins and a “Friday Night Apron” for Christmas gifts…I got these fun fabrics at Cool Cottons on sale this weekend.  J was kind enough to humor me for a bit in the fabric store on Sunday.

-Looking for a PT nanny or admin job to help pay the bills

-Sharing at our home community about winter gardening in the NW

-Sending of some fun stuff to our friends in S. Korea

P.S. Sale at Cool Cottons!

Cool Cottons, a great locally owned fabric store on Hawthorne & 25th is having a great sale this weekend! Their fabric is already reasonably priced but this weekend you get to take an additional 25% off! They carry all the fun stuff – like Amy Butler’s lines, Heather Bailey, Anna Maria Horner, etc. All my favs!

Pear Upside Down Spice Cake

The PUDSC from Cooking Light turned out quite nice. We’ve been eating re-heated slices for breakfast – I figure it is probably not any more unhealthy than the coffee cake or scone we’d buy at our local coffee shop. The Bosc pears hold up nicely in this recipe – not too mushy. The sauce topping (made mainly w/ brown sugar and buttermilk) is similar to a cinnamon roll glaze. I would recommend doubling it so you have even more to soak into the cake but it was also good as is if you want to limit your sugar intake.
